Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has spoken out after his failed move to AC Milan in this summer's transfer window.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker's transfer to AC Milan officially fell through after Boniface failed his medical last week. This failure was due to Boniface's history of knee injuries, which have undergone multiple surgeries .
"I failed to move because of my old injuries," Boniface told Punch, as reported by Football-Italia on Tuesday.
“I had two knee injuries on my right leg, and it stayed there for a long time.”
AC Milan had previously reached an agreement with Leverkusen to loan Boniface until the end of the 2025/26 season, with an option to buy permanently included in the deal.
However, medical tests revealed a problem with Boniface's knee, which prevented him from moving to the Rossoneri.
Boniface underwent knee surgery in 2019 and 2020, and missed several games last season due to a muscle injury.
Despite his injury history, Boniface has impressed for Leverkusen since joining in the summer of 2023/24, registering 32 goals and 12 assists in 61 appearances.
He also played a key role in leading Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title in his debut season, before finishing as runners-up to Bayern Munich the following season.
As a replacement, AC Milan has recruited Conrad Harder from Portuguese club Sporting CP to fill the position left by the failed Boniface transfer.
