The World Boxing Association (WBA) said WBA International heavyweight champion Moses Itauma strengthened his chances of becoming the new world heavyweight champion after knocking out Dillian Whyte.
"The WBA International title now paves the way for Moses to achieve a greater opportunity (to become world champion) in 2026," the WBA said on its website.
The British boxer scored a quick finish over Whyte in the first round at 1 minute 57 seconds at the Kingdom Arena, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The 37-year-old Whyte is making his comeback after more than a year of inactivity, as he attempts to climb back up the world rankings.
However, Whyte was overwhelmed by Itauma's speed, sharpness and explosive finishing instincts, which left him with no room to adapt.
Despite having experience fighting big names like Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, Whyte struggled to contain Itauma's explosive attacks.
