Mexicali, December 27. An elderly woman died of poisoning during a fire in her home that was started by her own son.
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon on Valentín Gómez Farías Street in the Nueva neighborhood.
The victim was allegedly attacked by his son, who then set fire to the property.
Firefighters who responded to extinguish the flames were able to rescue the elderly woman, but she died during the transfer to the hospital.
Authorities arrested the attacker, a man around 55 years old, who was identified as the victim's son .
The area was cordoned off and secured by officers from the Municipal Police, the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), and the National Guard.
