25 Western countries demand that Israel reopen the medical corridor between Gaza and the West Bank.

"We strongly urge Israel to reopen the medical corridor to the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, so that medical evacuations from Gaza can resume and patients can receive the treatment they desperately need in the Palestinian territories," the countries said in a joint statement issued by Canada on Monday.

Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the European Union, and Poland were among the 25 countries that signed the statement, excluding the United States.

The statement added: "We also urge Israel to lift restrictions on the delivery of medicines and medical equipment to Gaza."

Aid agencies reported in late August that critical aid, including medicine, had not reached Gaza residents since Israel lifted the aid blockade in May.

The World Health Organization declared that month that Gaza's health system was on the verge of collapse.

Israel controls all entrances to Gaza and says it allows enough food aid and supplies into the Strip.

Images of starving Palestinians, including children, sparked global outrage over Israel's assault on Gaza, which has killed tens of thousands since October 2023, displaced the entire population of Gaza, and caused a famine crisis.

Numerous human rights experts and researchers, as well as a UN commission of inquiry, say the attack amounts to genocide.

With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt the operation.

The genocide left 65,344 martyrs and 166,795 wounded, most of them children and women, and a famine that claimed the lives of 442 Palestinians, including 147 children.a
