Al Jazeera quoted a Hamas leadership source as saying, "The leadership delegation in Doha was targeted in an Israeli airstrike during a meeting to discuss US President Donald Trump's proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza." The source noted that "the Hamas leadership delegation, headed by Khalil al-Hayya," survived the Israeli attack.
In an unprecedented move, the Israeli occupation army targeted Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital, Doha, on Tuesday in an airstrike whose results were not fully disclosed.
Israel quickly claimed responsibility for the attack, which targeted a meeting discussing US President Donald Trump's proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation quoted an unnamed senior Israeli official as saying, "The United States was informed in advance of the attack." The Israeli occupation army dubbed the attack "Summit of Fire," according to an army statement.
Israel's Channel 12 reported that the attack "targeted the head of Hamas's negotiating delegation, Khalil al-Hayya, political bureau member Zaher Jabarin, and Hamas's official abroad, Khaled Meshaal."
The Israeli occupation army said in a statement: "The army and the Shin Bet, through the air force, attacked the leadership of the Hamas movement a short while ago in a precisely targeted manner," claiming that "the Hamas leadership that was targeted has led the movement's activities for years and bears direct responsibility for the October 7th attacks and for directing the war against Israel."
The military also claimed that "prior to the raid, steps were taken to avoid civilian casualties, including the use of precision munitions and additional intelligence."
On Sunday, Trump, an ally of Israel, spoke of a new proposal presented to Hamas to end the war in Gaza. According to Israel's Channel 12, Trump's plan calls for the return of all Israeli prisoners at once and the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails.

Hamas has repeatedly declared its willingness to conclude a comprehensive deal with Tel Aviv to release all Israeli prisoners in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, end the war, and withdraw from the Gaza Strip. However, Netanyahu has consistently rejected these offers, insisting on partial proposals that allow him to stall and impose new conditions at each negotiation stage.
Tel Aviv estimates there are 48 Israeli prisoners in Gaza, 20 of whom are still alive. Meanwhile, more than 11,100 Palestinians are languishing in its prisons, suffering torture, starvation, and medical neglect. Many of these Palestinians have been killed, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.
The opposition and the families of Israeli prisoners assert that Netanyahu is continuing the war to maintain his position, fearing the collapse of his government if the most extremist faction, which refuses to end the war, withdraws.
With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving 64,605 Palestinians martyred, 163,319 wounded, most of them children and women, hundreds of thousands displaced, and a famine that has killed 399 Palestinians, including 140 children.
