The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 Women's Series 2025 officially concluded with the final match in Shanghai, China, on September 13-14, but the season-ending event presented various important achievements from several of the world's top teams.
According to FIBA 3x3 statistics released in Jakarta on Wednesday, Team Canada emerged victorious after defeating Azerbaijan 21-12, with basketball player Saicha Grant-Allen named the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP).
But besides Canada's success, another major highlight came from Azerbaijan, who have been a surprise performer all season.
A year after making history by appearing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the team recorded 17 wins from 23 matches in the Women's Series, including two titles and a runner-up finish in Shanghai.
The impressive performance of Brianna Fraser, who finished the tournament as the top scorer with 54 points and the highest-scoring player (53.6), further underscored their competitiveness.
In addition, the Netherlands, who had a dominant season with 31 wins from 37 matches, also almost made history.
They had the chance to become the first team to achieve the treble of the European Cup, World Cup, and Women's Series Final. However, their dream was dashed after a narrow 19-21 defeat to Azerbaijan in the semifinals.
However, the performances of Janis Boonstra and Ilse Kuijt have added color to the Netherlands' journey this season in the absence of main star Noortje Driessen.
Spain was equally consistent throughout the tournament. After winning bronze at the European Cup, they advanced to the semifinals of the Shanghai Final, defeating the Netherlands U25 in the quarterfinals.
Led by the experienced duo of Vega Gimeno and Sandra Ygueravide, Spain closed the season with a total of 21 wins from 27 matches, as well as winning three Women's Series titles.
In addition to the team's achievements, the event also reinforced Shanghai's status as a key destination on the global 3x3 calendar.
FIBA 3x3 stated, "The enthusiastic support from the crowd in the stands made the tournament atmosphere special, and it also closed the 2025 season on a high."
