Delano, October 16. Agents from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) arrested Armando Escárcega Valdez, alias "El Patrón," in Delano, California. According to the Attorney General's Office (FGR), the mastermind behind the attack on journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva is believed to be the perpetrator.
The alleged criminal's arrest occurred after our country requested his arrest for extradition from the U.S. Department of Justice for the crime of criminal conspiracy.
Escárcega Valdez was placed before a California judge, who must process the extradition proceedings.
"In this regard, based on the original investigation file held by the Mexico City Attorney General's Office, this institution issued a corresponding request to the Attorney General's Office (FGR), which assumed federal jurisdiction to investigate this case in September," the attorney general's office explained.
