Mexico City, August 6.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador instructed personnel from Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and the armed forces to travel to Cuba to assist in controlling the fire at the Matanzas oil facility.
Interviewed during his tour of Colima, he emphasized that this personnel is already leaving for the island.
He recalled that there was an explosion, and one oil tank caught fire, followed by another. "There are missing and injured people, and we are going to provide support to control the fire. I have given that instruction to Pemex and the Mexican armed forces," he emphasized.
For its part, the Cuban Embassy in Mexico thanked the federal government for its concern and prompt assistance following the unfortunate incident in Matanzas.
"In times of need, the true bonds of friendship and solidarity between our peoples are reaffirmed," he noted.
Meanwhile, Labor Party leader Alberto Anaya expressed his solidarity with the Cuban people and its president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, in response to the fire at the Supertank Base, which left at least 77 people injured.
He acknowledged the López Obrador administration's decision to send immediate aid. "A strong and united Cuba, as always, will prevail," he emphasized.
