Mexico City, July 14.- In the midst of one of
the most complex crises in national teams, the Mexican Football Federation is seeking to remedy the setbacks of the women's and men's U-20 teams. Therefore, Yon de Luisa, president of the organization, confirmed a restructuring and the departure of key executives, a decision that was urgent and only needed to be made official.
With more setbacks than successes, Gerardo Torrado concluded his tenure as general director of the Mexican Football Federation, while Ignacio Hierro, director of national teams, and Luis Pérez, manager of the Tricolor U-20 team, were also dismissed.
Only Mónica Vergara, coach of the women's team, managed to save her position, at least for now, despite being eliminated from the World Cup Qualifiers without any points or goals scored. The new sporting director will evaluate the coach's performance and determine her continued position.
"The adjustments to the board are aimed at avoiding results like those seen in recent weeks, deepening the commitment and responsibility of the board members to the various national teams, and strengthening the performance of our representatives, both men's and women's," said De Luisa, who at the last minute switched a conference that had previously been announced as in-person to a virtual format due to health reasons.
He emphasized that as part of the restructuring, a dedicated sports department will now be created for the women's national teams, allowing each manager to focus on their respective category.
With only six months left until the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he assured that the departure of Torrado and Hierro will not affect the process of Gerardo Martino, head of the Tricolor, since the coach "was open to changes and to working with whoever needs to do it."
