Archaeologist Rubén Cabrera, a scholar of Teotihuacan culture, dies.

Teotihuacán, May 13.- The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) announced the death of Rubén Cabrera Castro, emeritus researcher, one of the country's most important archaeologists and recognized for his contributions to the understanding of the development of Teotihuacan culture.

The archaeologist, born in the state of Guerrero in 1934 and who died early this Saturday morning, worked on various salvage archaeology projects across the country, but the so-called "City of the Gods," Teotihuacán, captured his attention and vocation. He worked and lived there for the past few decades, accompanied by his loved ones.

The National Archaeology Coordination of the INAH expressed its regret at the archaeologist's death and noted that Rubén Cabrera directed several projects and worked as an archaeologist in Chiapas, Guerrero, Veracruz, and Michoacán.

"He was a teacher for several generations at the National School of Anthropology and History and, in practice, an unparalleled trainer of many archaeologists. The author of an unsurpassed body of work, he was also a constant advocate for archaeological heritage. With his passing, the INAH loses one of Mexico's finest archaeologists. His colleagues will fondly remember him as the great person and friend he always was to all who knew him," he said.

Last December, at the National Museum of Anthropology, the Ministry of Culture, through the INAH (National Institute of Anthropology), paid tribute to Rubén Cabrera on the occasion of the publication of the Memoirs of La Ventilla, a rescue project he directed that provides insight into how the neighborhoods of the ancient city of Teotihuacán functioned and the most far-reaching investigation ever conducted in Teotihuacán.
