According to orthopedic specialists, back pain can be caused by many things, including tumors and cancer.
"There are many causes of back pain, one of which is the spread of tumors from one type of cancer, one of which is blood cancer," said orthopedic specialist and spine consultant Andra Hendriarto at a health discussion event in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to Dr. Andra Hendriarto, Sp.OT (K), problems with the spine in the lumbar area are most often complained of because that area moves the most during activities.
The doctor, who graduated from the University of Indonesia, stated that lower back pain could be a symptom of lymph node cancer or lymphoma.
"The most common cause of back pain is lymphoma, a blood cancer. And it usually affects not only older people but also very young people," he said.
Lymphoma is a blood cancer that can cause swelling of the lymph nodes. This cancer begins when cancer cells attack lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell that plays a vital role in the immune system.
