Mexicali, September 11 – The UABC Foundation has launched applications for the Meritus 2025 award, a recognition that honors graduates of the Autonomous University of Baja California for their professional careers, contributions to society, and support for the university's identity.
Felipe Cuamea Velázquez, vice president of Alumni Programs at the UABC Foundation, reported that the call is open to the institution's nearly 200,000 alumni, who can apply until October 3, 2025.
"Anyone can nominate a graduate; last year there were 100 candidates," he explained.
This edition includes a new category, he said, that of Business Merit, which seeks to recognize those who have excelled in the creation and development of productive projects.
Last year, the award was given to seven people, and the hope is to continue strengthening ties with the university community.
Cuamea Velázquez emphasized that the Meritus Award seeks to recognize graduates who have not only performed outstandingly in their professional fields, but also support the UABC Foundation's philanthropic programs.
He emphasized that the work of teachers and researchers was previously recognized, but for years there has been an effort to enhance the work of graduates.
"We want graduates to maintain ties to our university," he said.
