Commission VII urges TVRI to improve its operations after securing World Cup broadcasting rights

Member of Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR), Hendry Munief, urged the Indonesian Public Television Broadcasting Institution (LPP TVRI) to make significant improvements after securing the broadcasting rights for the 2026 World Cup, to maximize public enjoyment of the football event.

According to him, TVRI's presence as a public television station trusted to broadcast this major tournament is in line with the public's aspirations to have access to national team matches without the constraints of broadcasting permits.

"We congratulate TVRI on securing the broadcasting rights for the 2026 World Cup. With these rights, the public can enjoy the event for free and watch together without the hassle of broadcasting rights," Hendry said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to him, after obtaining the broadcasting rights, TVRI needs to improve its broadcasting facilities, so that services are optimal or reach all corners of the country.

Hendry welcomed the assignment of LPP TVRI as the broadcasting rights holder for the prestigious 4-yearly football event and assessed that this step would provide an opportunity for the wider public to enjoy prestigious world football broadcasts for free with the state's contribution.

He assessed that infrastructure revitalization was absolutely necessary because much of TVRI's broadcast equipment was old.

These improvements, he continued, include transmitter facilities, studios, and supporting technology, especially in remote areas and outermost islands.

He said that the DPR, through Commission VII, had also approved an additional budget to support improving the quality of public television broadcasts.

"Management must improve the transmitter facilities, studios and aging technology. The better the quality of TVRI's transmitters, the more satisfied the public will be," he said.

He added that TVRI's success in broadcasting the 2026 World Cup with high quality would have a significant economic impact. He said this could encourage the growth of small and medium-sized businesses, ranging from culinary businesses and coffee shops to the garment industry, which sells accessories for group viewings and organizes group viewings.

Because, he added, the momentum of holding the world's biggest football tournament could be a catalyst for the growth of the creative industry and service sector.
