Criminal groups fight for the "plaza" in La Rumorosa: BC prosecutor

Mexicali, May 6.— The violence that broke out in the town of La Rumorosa, where at least six bodies have been found, is related to the dispute between two criminal groups for territorial control (the "plaza"), according to Attorney General María Elena Andrade Ramírez, who denied that there is a floor fee, as some merchants had reported.

In recent weeks, this town has seen multiple violent incidents. Among them, the disappearance of Gloria Elena Ramos Hernández (46), an employee at the town's only gas station, and José Luis Ríos, a YouTuber from a tourist ranch, stand out.

Additionally, graves containing human remains were found at kilometer 60 of the Mexicali-Tecate freeway. Although the initial estimate was nine bodies, the state prosecutor confirmed the number to be six.

Andrade Ramírez clarified that it has not yet been identified whether the two missing persons are among the bodies found.

The official insisted there is no evidence of extortion of businesses, but rather a clash between rival groups for control of the area. Despite the federal significance of the case, local investigations into the homicides are progressing.
