Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria emphasized the importance of Indonesia's involvement in determining the direction of global regulations regarding artificial intelligence ( AI ) technology.
In the IIFA Discussion Series #4 with the theme "Indonesia in the Era of Artificial Intelligence" at the International Islamic University of Indonesia, Depok, West Java, Nezar said that Indonesia must actively participate in the global arena regarding AI so that in the future it will not only be a user of artificial intelligence products.
"Today we are witnessing an arms race between the United States and China. If we are late in entering, then Global South countries , including Indonesia, will become mere consumers. That's what's happening with nuclear and space regulations; the rules are only determined by developed countries," Nezar said in a press statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
"We don't want to be just users, but players. With critical resources like nickel, a large market, and a national roadmap , Indonesia has the capital. The important thing now is to have the courage to set the right direction, not just be a follower," he emphasized.
