Wijaya Kusumawardhana, Expert Staff for Social, Economic, and Cultural Affairs at the Ministry of Communication and Digital , highlighted the phenomenon of rampant hate speech on social media platforms, which has attracted the attention of many netizens.
He emphasized the need for regulations to prevent the live broadcast feature on social media platforms from being misused to spread hate speech.
"The government is also observing and reminding platforms to differentiate themselves. Social media should not be used as a tool for the benefit of certain individuals or groups, while harming others," he said in South Jakarta on Saturday.
According to Wijaya, social media platforms should be able to provide a positive experience for users, such as enabling interactive sales of merchandise in the digital space.
"Shopping on a marketplace isn't just about looking at photos; you can also see shapes, sizes, and colors through videos. This can empower the ecosystem," he said.
