Mexico City, July 6.- The impeachment of representatives Benjamín Saúl Huerta , former Morena legislator, and Mauricio Alonso Toledo, accused of raping a minor and illicit enrichment, was declared admissible.
On Monday, the Investigative Section of the Chamber of Deputies approved two rulings to remove the defendants' legislative immunity so that criminal proceedings can be brought against them.
The Attorney General's Office of Mexico City , where both legislators have open cases, made the request to remove their immunity.
Monday's meeting was held privately and remotely. Forty minutes after its start, it was announced that the four legislators who make up the body voted to revoke Huerta Corona's immunity , arguing that there are grounds for criminal proceedings against him for the crime of rape of a minor.
In the case of Toledo Gutiérrez , accused of illicit enrichment during his tenure as a delegate in Coyoacán, Morena members Pablo Gómez , president of the body, and Marta Patricia Ramírez spoke in favor of stripping him of his immunity . PRI member Claudia Pastor Badillo abstained, and Carmen Bernal of the Workers' Party (PT) spoke out against it.
The ruling must be sent to the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies so that it can request an extraordinary session of the Standing Committee, which will be held on Monday, July 12, to establish a panel of judges.
It is worrying that they do not meet requirements
Following the ruling, the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) met on Monday night, where legislators from the PRI and the Green Party expressed concern that the requirements for Toledo Gutiérrez were not met, "that is, he did not have a majority in his favor, but rather a tie ," and so they decided to request a legal opinion on the matter.
Regarding the Huerta Corona case, given that it was decided unanimously, the situation could be resolved in the session on Monday the 12th, the Jucopo agreed.
