Hamas discusses efforts to end the war with Palestinian factions in Cairo, and Hebrew media reports that Witkov is offering a comprehensive deal.

The movement said in a statement on Sunday: "A leadership delegation from the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, concluded a visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt yesterday evening, Saturday." The statement explained that the visit came "as part of efforts to end the (Israeli) war of extermination on the Gaza Strip and halt the escalation of Zionist aggression in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem," without specifying the start date of the visit.

The statement said that the movement's delegation, headed by leader Zaher Jabareen, "met with Palestinian factions (which it did not name), civil society institutions, Palestinian figures, and businessmen in the Egyptian capital, Cairo."

The delegation discussed "ways to enhance consultation, develop joint action, and draw up a national roadmap, while emphasizing that unity of position and action on the ground is the guarantee for ending the war and strengthening steadfastness."

Hamas noted that "the visit coincided with the escalation of the occupation's crimes in the Gaza Strip, and the increasing systematic policy of destruction and displacement, as part of Zionist plans to reoccupy Gaza City and continue the genocide against the Palestinians."

She explained that "the Palestinian factions agreed to continue searching for ways to end the war, support the steadfastness of the people of the Gaza Strip, and confront the challenges facing the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem, in addition to strengthening joint efforts to manage the battle and charting a national roadmap for the post-war period."

The official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said that Witkov passed on a proposal for a comprehensive deal through Israeli "peace activist" Gershon Baskin, who contributed to the negotiations for the release of soldier Gilad Shalit more than a decade ago.

For its part, the private Israeli Channel 12 quoted an unnamed Israeli source claiming that there was communication between Baskin and Hamas leader Ghazi Hamad, without specifying the nature of the communication.

The source said: "Baskin and Ghazi Hamad have previously participated in exchanging messages regarding prisoners, as messages were passed between them during negotiations to release (soldier) Gilad Shalit."

Egypt, along with Qatar, is sponsoring indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel to reach a prisoner exchange agreement and end the war on Gaza.

But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to refuse and stall, while the Palestinian movement has agreed to several successive agreement proposals.

With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving 64,368 Palestinians dead, 162,367 injured, most of them children and women, more than 9,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and a famine that has claimed the lives of 382 Palestinians, including 135 children.

In parallel with the war of extermination in Gaza, the Israeli army and settlers in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, killed at least 1,018 Palestinians, injured nearly 7,000 others, and arrested more than 19,000, according to Palestinian data.
