The statement explained that the postponement was due to the fleet's delayed arrival from Spain, weather conditions, sea conditions, and logistical reasons related to the ships. The authority confirmed that official and public events to bid farewell to the ships will be held on Wednesday, while events to welcome the Spanish ships will continue on Sunday for those who wish to participate.
Around 20 ships set sail from the Spanish port of Barcelona at the end of August, followed by another convoy from the Italian port of Genoa. A third ship from Tunisia was expected to meet up on Sunday, but the departure was postponed until Wednesday. All three ships will continue their journey to Gaza, attempting to break the Israeli blockade.
The flotilla consists of the Freedom Flotilla Union, the Global Gaza Movement, the Steadfastness Flotilla, and the Malaysian "Sumud Nusantara" organization.
