Healthy lunches, Issstecali recommends for returning to school

Mexicali, August 16.- Good nutrition is one of the keys to optimal physical and mental development. Therefore, the Institute of Social Security and Services for Government and Municipal Workers of the State of Baja California (ISSSTECALI) recommended that parents choose healthy foods for their students' lunches when they return to school.

The deputy director general of medicine, Angélica Pon Méndez, emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced diet for all children, as poor nutrition can be detrimental to their proper development or even lead to metabolic diseases in later life.

She pointed out that a healthy lunchbox should include chopped fruit or vegetables; a whole grain, for example, corn tortillas, oatmeal, amaranth, or whole-wheat bread; a protein; a source of good fats, such as a seed or almond; and a sugar-free beverage or plain water.

"It's important for the little ones in the house to eat healthy throughout the day, thus strengthening their cognitive and physical abilities and counteracting the fatigue that comes with each day," Pon Méndez added.

She also recommended including children in menu planning, teaching them from an early age to be responsible for their diet, both in terms of the amount of food they eat and how they combine it.

Finally, Pon Méndez mentioned that Issstecali offers a Nutrition Service in its Medical Units, allowing professionals to advise you on planning healthy menus for both lunches and regular meals.
