Tijuana Firefighters are dissatisfied because the current administration of the 24th City Council has awarded union positions in that department to personnel who work in other departments and who do not have the seniority to deserve it.
Dissatisfied firefighters pointed out that this practice has been going on for several years . Previously, a seniority scale was used to open up a union position in the Fire Department .
"Supposedly, the most senior, trusted firefighter will be joining the remaining base, but we've been experiencing the same situation for several years," said one dissatisfied firefighter.
They say that by not granting firefighters positions, they don't earn seniority in their jobs, even though they are workers who risk their lives fighting fires.
One of the dissatisfied is Fernando Munguía Espinoza, a paid firefighter for 11 years, who was hoping for a position to have a secure job with better benefits. He pointed out that the Bureaucrats' Union awards positions to workers with less experience.
"People outside the corporation who have nothing to do with the Fire Department, who have never put out a fire in their lives, are the ones who are dissatisfied because I have to sacrifice the well-being of my family or the rights they deserve, for other people who have never set foot in the Fire Department, and many firefighters are going through this situation."
For his part, Tijuana Fire Director Rafael Carrillo said it's a matter for the Bureaucrats Union.
