Mexicali, August 26. — Journalist Jorge Heras, host of the program Ciudad Capital and contributor to La Jornada Baja California, was physically attacked Tuesday morning upon arriving at the production house where the newscast is recorded in Mexicali.
According to the journalist, two men intercepted him as he approached the building. After using intimidating language, they punched him in the face and body, knocking him to the ground. During the attack, one of the attackers yelled at him, "So you can stop fucking him, Heras."
The journalist said he thought one of the attackers was carrying a weapon, which led him to try to flee; however, he slipped on a wet area and fell, sustaining visible injuries. A woman partially witnessed the incident.
Heras managed to take refuge in his vehicle and called 911 for help. Due to the attack, the Capital City broadcast was suspended. His colleague and co-host, Eduardo Villalugo, confirmed the incident and expressed concern for the union's safety.
