Google is confirmed to not be required to sell the Chrome browser or the Android operating system, but it is still required to change a number of its business practices.
the ruling was delivered by Federal Judge Amit Mehta in a 230-page document, more than a year after the court found Google guilty of maintaining a monopoly in the internet search business.
The United States Department of Justice previously proposed forcing Google to sell Chrome as a corrective measure. However, Mehta argued that the government had "overstepped its bounds" in its demands.
"Google will not be required to divest Chrome; nor will the court include a conditional divestment of Android in its final judgment. The plaintiffs are overreaching in demanding the divestment of key assets that Google does not use to engage in illegal practices," Mehta said.
