Tijuana, June 18. Teachers at Technical Secondary School No. 49 "Raymundo Muzquiz Ayala" protested again against the lack of response from authorities to their request to review a perimeter band that had been on the verge of collapse since 2017 .
On May 7, school teachers and parents went to the offices of the Ministry of Education in Tijuana to demand an analysis of the wall, which had caused fear among the school community due to the risk of collapse.
After the pandemic and with the return to in-person classes, teachers and professors decided to find a solution to this problem and residents of the El Lago subdivision made repairs on their own .
Civil Protection has not approved the project, which has meant that, for weeks, only half of the students were able to attend classes daily, while the other half have to take classes online.
Professor Nelson Javier Ruiz Pérez explained that the director of Basic Education, Osvaldo Torres, met with teachers and asked them to consolidate the groups so that all students could attend classes in their classrooms.
During that meeting, a response regarding the fence's status was also agreed upon for Monday, June 17.
The deadline has arrived, and the official "hasn't shown his face," and through their union, the teachers have had to learn that their demands have not been met, leading them to call a work stoppage starting this Tuesday, June 18.
The school has 18 classrooms, and although it can serve up to 536 students, only 380 currently attend, as their parents have opted to transfer them to other secondary schools where they can attend classes regularly.
