Tijuana, October 11.- Through the Community Program of the Tijuana Cultural Center ( Cecut ), belonging to the Ministry of Culture, the Community Culture program was held where the artist Aurelia Ojeda Meléndrez , belonging to the Kumiai community, received the Special Award for her piece Maija awi tipay pchow .
Ojeda Meléndrez participated in the 8th Edition of the National Contest Great Masters of the Artisan Heritage of Mexico 2021 – Fonart, which was held in Mexico City through the National Fund for the Promotion of Handicrafts ( Fonart ), Citibanamex, among other institutions.
Her artwork—a type of reed plate—represents one of the six award-winning indigenous communities: Huave, Kumiai, Mixe, Nahua, Purhépecha, and Zapotec . Thanks to her recognized efforts, the work will be exhibited in the International Hall of the marble building until November 7 of this year.

Aurelia Ojeda Meléndrez is a traditional Kumiai weaver and teacher at the Cecut Community Program , located in San José de la Zorra, Ensenada, where she shares her knowledge with children and adolescents.
