French national team captain Kylian Mbappe has expressed his support for the possibility of Zinedine Zidane taking over as head coach of the national team.
This statement comes ahead of the end of the tenure of current coach Didier Deschamps, who will end his duties after the 2026 World Cup.
In an interview with L'Equipe quoted on Wednesday, Mbappe gave his full backing to Zidane to replace Deschamps.
"With him, there's no need to complicate things. He's Zidane. No one would say no. Only he can do it," Mbappe said.
However, Mbappe stressed that he would still support the French Football Federation appointing another coach.
"If he's the one chosen, great! If it's someone else, that's fine too. However, Zidane is the only one in the history of French football who has almost all the rights (to coach the French national team)."
