Nuevo Laredo, September 26.- Nuevo Laredo authorities held a meeting with authorities from Laredo, Texas, to consolidate the expansion of the World Trade Bridge (Bridge 3) and the construction of Bridges 4/5 , which will boost growth in foreign trade.
At the meeting held in Laredo, Mayor Arturo Sanmiguel Cantú, Governor Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca of Tamaulipas, Mayor Pete Saenz, and Congressman Henry Cuellar presented the "Laredo International Bridges Master Plan ," developed by S&B Infrastructure and C&M Associates.
The attendees were explained the benefits of expanding the World Trade Bridge from 8 to 16 lanes and the agility it will provide at the crossing. The investment is over $15 million.
"This is a fundamental issue for competitiveness and involves improving infrastructure conditions at border crossings so they are more efficient and more cargo can flow to the Laredos region, boosting economic development," said Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca.
To begin the expansion work, the official mentioned that permits must be obtained from the federal governments of the United States and Mexico, and the funding from neighboring Tamaulipas is already allocated for this project.
"The Tamaulipas government has completed numerous infrastructure projects to make the crossing more efficient on the Mexican side , and the American side is also doing the same," the Governor added.
According to Congressman Henry Cuellar, it could take six months to process all the permits and begin construction.
Regarding the construction of Bridge 4/5, García Cabeza de Vaca emphasized that planning is already underway to prepare for the significant commercial activity that will be triggered in the near future by trade between the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
