Meta reportedly limits research on VR safety risks for children

Meta has been reported by a group of whistleblowers or reporting witnesses for alleged restrictions on research and studies related to the security risks of the virtual reality (VR) developed by the company for children and adolescents.

This news was first reported by The Washington Post.

The whistleblower witnesses consisted of four Meta staff, both active and retired, who filed the report after a previous whistleblower, Frances Haugen, leaked internal research to the US Congress.

The company then asked its lawyers to screen and sometimes veto research on VR and teen safety.

The new whistleblowers are represented by the legal nonprofit Whistleblower Aid, which also works with Haugen.
