Mexico City, September 3.- Mexican boxer Jeanette Zacarías Zapata died yesterday at the age of 18 , after spending several days in a Canadian hospital in a coma , due to the knockout she received last weekend from local fighter Marie Pier Houle .
After debuting in January 2018 , the boxer from Aguascalientes fought her first fight outside of Mexico last Saturday , which took place at the GYM Gala Boxing, located at the IGA Stadium in Montreal, Canada .
The fight , scheduled for welterweight , had to be stopped by the referee in the fourth round , when the Mexican received a strong blow from her opponent, after which she went to her corner, where she fainted and subsequently convulsed in the ring , for which she was admitted to the Sacré-Coeur hospital in Montreal.
He had not regained consciousness
A couple of days ago, promoter Yvon Michel confirmed her serious condition , as well as the induced coma to which she was subjected, since she did not regain consciousness after being treated by medical staff.
The Mexican fighter, known as “ La Chiquitaboom ,” had also been knocked out on May 14 by Cynthia Lozano at the Arena Coliseo in Reynosa, Tamaulipas.
During her short career as a professional boxer, Zacarías Zapata was only able to compete in six fights , in which she achieved two wins and four losses .
Opponent, 31 years old
For her part, the Canadian Marie Pier Houle, 31 years old and who holds a record of four wins and one draw , with two knockouts , wrote a few days ago on her social networks the following message: “ Boxing has its risks and dangers. This is our job, our passion. Never, never, the intention of seriously injuring an opponent is in my plans .”
In last Saturday's fight, no title was at stake , and it was not sanctioned by any world organization , only by the Montreal Boxing Commission .
