Newborn suffers burns in IMSS incubator in Aguascalientes

Aguascalientes, November 25.- A baby born at 31 weeks gestation suffered burns to 30 percent of her body while in an incubator —apparently due to a short circuit—in the neonatal area of Clinic 2 of the Mexican Social Security Institute , and her life is in danger, her family reported.

The little girl's relatives announced that on Tuesday afternoon they received a call from the public hospital authorities in which they were informed that Valentina N, 5 days old, had suffered burns while she was in the incubator since last Thursday after an alleged short circuit occurred, which caused second and third degree burns on the newborn's right arm and side.

Following this, the Municipal Public Security Secretariat had to transfer the infant to the Children's Burn Specialty Hospital in Guadalajara, Jalisco , where it was reported that the minor was admitted with a serious diagnosis.

In September 2020,  La Jornada  reported that at Clinic No. 3 of the same institution, hospital workers burned a newborn baby while she was being bathed.

To date, the IMSS delegation has not issued any statement.
