Mexico City, August 16. Undersecretary of Health Promotion and Prevention Hugo López-Gatell said that behind the proliferation and operation of clinics adjacent to large chain pharmacies, there is a major scam aimed at providing care for chronic health conditions (diabetes or heart disease), which puts those who visit them at risk because they do not actually resolve the disease and do lead to a significant purchase of medications .
During the presidential press conference, López Gatell indicated that this system of clinics in chain pharmacies was a consequence of the privatization of healthcare in Mexico, given the lack of investment to guarantee medical care in public healthcare institutions that prevailed in the past.
He mentioned that initially these clinics served up to a third of the demand, which could eventually resolve minor ailments such as the flu or diarrhea, but not more complex ones .
