Zenteno Santaella asserts that he is fighting corruption at the ISSSTE.

Mexico City, December 1.- Humanizing services and curbing corruption are some of the goals set by the new director of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), Pedro Zenteno Santaella. At Laboratorios de Biológicos y Reactivos de México (Birmex), which he led from September 2020 until yesterday, he said it is on the path to becoming a strategic company for the Mexican state.

The official, who served as the institute's Finance Director at the beginning of the current administration, also emphasized the importance of eradicating corruption that puts people's lives at risk. He noted that the organization—which is an example in the country—must be restored for its beneficiaries.

He said he knows ISSSTE "from the inside out" and asserted that he already has a clear understanding of what needs to be done. First, humanize the service provided to human beings. "It's not just about files or numbers. We have to be close" to users and "make that human warmth felt."

It will also focus on improving infrastructure and empowering workers to improve service quality.

Regarding Birmex, Zenteno emphasized that the renovation of the production plants at the Virology and Hygiene Institutes is underway. They are about to recover their good manufacturing practices certificates from the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris).

The document is part of the process to ensure the plants are ready to produce vaccines on a large scale, and specifically to finalize the transfer of technology for the production of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, he indicated.
