General Manager of PT PLN Persero's Main Distribution Unit for South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and West Sulawesi (UID Sulselrabar), Edyansyah, explained the strategy and commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060.
Edyansyah stated that PLN is committed to accelerating Indonesia's energy transition by increasing the capacity of New and Renewable Energy (NRE)-based power plants.
"This demonstrates support for the government's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 29 percent by 2030 and achieving Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060," Ediyansyah explained in a statement in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Wednesday.
The day before, this had been presented at the Southeast Sulawesi Hipmi BPD Regional Working Meeting, and when delivering a guest lecture at Haluoleo University.
PLN has undertaken a number of initiatives to promote NZE 2060, including decarbonizing coal and gas, increasing renewable energy capacity and its supporting systems, and developing a green ecosystem.
"This step is an initiative program to ensure that NZE 2060 can be realized," said Edyansyah.
He said that the great potential of renewable energy that PLN is currently developing is geothermal, wind, solar and hydro-based power plants which have great potential to replace fossil fuel-based power plants, especially in the provinces of South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and West Sulawesi.
Edyansyah noted that the renewable energy mix in the Southern Sulawesi Electricity System (Sulbagsel) is 40 percent.
He also added that PLN UID Sulselrabar has provided 65 SPKLU units in 51 locations across South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and West Sulawesi provinces to support the electric vehicle ecosystem. The SPKLUs are also opening up to private businesses through several partnership schemes.
