President Erdoğan to Starmer: The recognition of the State of Palestine by permanent members of the Security Council is a historic development.

The Turkish Presidency's Communications Directorate reported that Erdoğan had a phone call with Starmer, during which they discussed bilateral relations between Türkiye and Britain, in addition to regional and international issues.

The Communications Department said in a statement on its InSocial account on Friday that Erdogan described the recognition of the State of Palestine by permanent members of the Security Council as a historic development.

President Erdoğan explained that this year's UN General Assembly meetings were beneficial in achieving progress towards a two-state solution in Palestine.

The Turkish president congratulated Starmer on his country's decision to recognize the State of Palestine, stressing that the same move by permanent members of the Security Council, such as Britain and France, is a historic development.

Erdogan stressed the need to maintain the existing momentum in support of Palestine, calling for measures beyond diplomatic pressure to halt Benjamin Netanyahu's government.

In recent days, 11 countries have recognized the State of Palestine: Britain, Canada, Australia, Portugal, Luxembourg, Belgium, Andorra, France, Malta, Monaco, and San Marino. This brings the total number of countries recognized by the United Nations to 159 out of 193 member states, according to the official Palestinian news agency, WAFA.
