Tijuana, October 20 – Pro-family civil organizations have declared themselves against the legislative reform initiatives that seek to legalize surrogacy, or the hiring of alternate mothers to conceive children, according to Marcela Vaquera, coordinator of the National Front for the Family , at a press conference . She explained that in the state of Tabasco, where this medical practice is permitted, it has led to complex social problems of exploitation against women.
“Women are abducted from their families, taken to rest centers, and subjected to medical treatment without contact with their families, with psychological and health effects .”
He mentioned that the legislation that was approved in the state of Tabasco has brought with it corruption networks, because, although the legislation of that state stipulates that only those who are residents of that entity can carry out surrogacy to have children, birth certificates are still being trafficked.
The National Front for the Tijuana Family, the National Pro-Life Committee, ARMY Pro-Life, and CeMujer groups reported that the state congress intends to legalize surrogacy, a measure that will primarily affect women living in poverty, as some will find themselves financially forced to engage in this practice.
While a press conference was being held against reform initiatives seeking to legalize surrogacy in Baja California, which was convened by civil organizations called Pro-Familia, feminist groups interrupted the conference to demand women's freedom to terminate their abortions.
However, both conservative pro-family groups and liberal feminist collectives agree that surrogacy should be banned in Baja California.
