The All Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) is currently designing a special strategy for the development of footballers aged under 23 (U-23) and improving the Indonesian league competition in the future.
"Will the U-23 team be a core player in League 2 in the future?" said the Chairman of the All Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir when met by reporters after the final match of Group J of the 2026 U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers, at the Delta Stadium in Sidoarjo, Tuesday night.
However, he said, the plan could only be implemented next season, because if the rules were changed now it could cause confusion, especially for clubs.
In addition, PSSI is also preparing plans to hold the President's Cup in April or May next year with the possibility of 64 clubs from all over Indonesia participating.
In the President's Cup, according to him, the regulations regarding the composition of young players will also be reviewed.
