Ricardo Monreal Ávila , coordinator of the Morena parliamentary faction in the Senate, announced that he will support Mexican Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard in his lawsuit against U.S. arms manufacturers.
On August 20, Ebrard announced that the Federal Court in Massachusetts had accepted the lawsuit filed by the Mexican government against corporations responsible for manufacturing and selling weapons to criminal groups . Under these circumstances, the Mexican government is demanding financial compensation of nearly $10 billion.
For his part, Senator Ricardo Monreal, during the VII Plenary Meeting of Morena, said: "I want to express our full support, backing, and solidarity with this important initiative."
The official also commented on issues related to the country's foreign policy , which are of interest to the Parliamentary Group . One of these was the Mexican Foreign Ministry's handling of the political asylum of Afghan populations.
In another regard, the president of the Political Coordination Board in the Senate announced that the day of negotiations regarding the crisis in Venezuela will also be discussed . In this regard, Monreal highlighted Ebrard's ability to manage these conflicts in the country.
"We invited him not only because the Senate has the exclusive authority to analyze this matter, but also because we needed to talk with him about some of the country's main problems: migration, transnational organized crime and drugs, as well as the international arms trade."
