Mexicali, September 26. "There were only 10" cars stolen from a State Attorney General's Office (FGE) warehouse, said Attorney General Rafael Orozco Vargas, specifying the number of vehicles stolen by a group of armed men at the site in the Mexicali Valley. He was attending Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda's weekly press conference.
That incident and the 911 call overload, most of them for fabricated incidents, is the situation in the southern Mexicali Valley, where the National Guard and the State Citizen Security Force (FESC) assumed control of security following an attack on two state officers on September 4, and the disarming and withdrawal of municipal police officers.
As part of the so-called new security strategy in the southern part of the Mexicali Valley, municipal agents were also subjected to control and confidence tests, which led to their discontent and even allegations of alleged torture against them. This also led to a disagreement between Mayor Norma Bustamante Martínez and Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, after the municipal leader revealed an alleged lack of coordination with the state on security matters.
This Wednesday, during Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda's weekly press conference, the central prosecutor was questioned about the theft of vehicles from a corral located in the La Puerta neighborhood. He responded, "There were only 10, not 20," prompting the governor to laugh and ask, "Only 10?"
