Caring for teeth is a learning process that requires consistency.

Dr. drg. Mochamad Fahlevi Rizal, SpKGA SubSpPKOA, Head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Indonesia, said that proper dental care is not just a habit but a learning process that requires consistency.

"Besides habit, proper brushing technique is also a learning process that can't be mastered overnight. Consistency is key," Fahlevi said when contacted.

Dr. Fahlevi also gave an example, namely a baby who usually cleans his gums using gauze after drinking milk from the beginning, even though his teeth have not yet grown at that time, and it is not a problem when he starts using a toothbrush when his teeth have grown.

Children who are just being taught to clean their mouths when their teeth have grown tend to feel uncomfortable because the brush enters their mouth cavity, and may feel nauseous or show other signs of resistance.
