Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria emphasized that the government never asked the social networking platform TikTok to stop the "LIVE" feature and that the move was made based on the platform's initiative.
"We need to emphasize here that this policy (suspending the "LIVE" feature) was not based on government instructions, but was implemented voluntarily by TikTok," Nezar said when met by reporters at the Indonesian House of Representatives on Tuesday.
Nezar stated that based on communications with TikTok, the "LIVE" feature was discontinued in Indonesia due to the platform's findings that digital content during the wave of demonstrations was deemed inconsistent with TikTok's community guidelines.
