Mexicali, July 3. Four Municipal Police officers escorting a convoy led by an alleged criminal were suspended from their posts by the Honor and Justice Commission.
The commission, a decentralized body composed of the heads of the Office of the Comptroller, Municipal Police, the Chief Clerk's Office, and the Public Safety Committee, voted unanimously to suspend the officers.
A video circulating on social media showed images captured by a security camera at 3 a.m. on June 14. It shows 17 vehicles entering the Maya neighborhood of Mexicali, including two patrol cars from the Public Security Department.
The convoy was allegedly led by Josué “N”, alias “El Pitufo” , a member of the criminal group Los Rusos, a cell of the Sinaloa Cartel.
Municipal Public Security Director Pedro Ariel Mendívil acknowledged the authenticity of the images and announced that four police officers had been relocated to non-operational areas.
He reported that the Honor and Justice Commission met on Tuesday, July 2, when it was decided to remove these four police officers from their positions.
He emphasized that there will be zero tolerance and impunity in these types of cases.
The Secretary of Citizen Security, Leopoldo Tizoc Aguilar, indicated that one of the people appearing in the video could be "El Pitufo," whose photograph was included in documents for the operation of the State Citizen Security Force (FESC).
