The Indonesian National Police and the Indonesian National Armed Forces are conducting large-scale patrols down to the neighborhood unit level to ensure public safety and prevent looting following the riots in a number of areas.
Deputy Chief of Police Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo said the joint patrol was a direct instruction from National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
"On the orders of the National Police Chief, I have instructed all regional and district police (Polres) to immediately conduct joint patrols with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). The goal is to ensure public safety from the threat of rioters and anarchists," Dedi said in an official statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
He emphasized that patrols were carried out throughout residential areas.
"We reaffirm our commitment to ensuring there is no room for anarchy or vandalism. We are conducting patrols down to the neighborhood unit (RT/RW) level to ensure the community feels safe. Any perpetrators who attempt to exploit the situation to loot or damage facilities will be dealt with firmly," he said.
In addition to patrols in residential areas, the Indonesian National Police have also strengthened security at police headquarters and police dormitories throughout Indonesia.
According to Dedi, this step is important to maintain state symbols and protect the families of members, prisoners, and dangerous goods from falling into the hands of criminals.
He also invited the public to play an active role in maintaining environmental security by reporting any suspicious activity.
