The army said in a statement that "Major Shahar Netanel Buzaglo (27 years old), a company commander in the 77th Battalion of the 7th Armored Brigade, was killed in a battle in the northern Gaza Strip."

The Times of Israel reported that an initial army investigation revealed that a Hamas fighter fired an RPG at a tank during the attack in Gaza City, wounding the officer.

The website added that Bouzaglo was transferred to the hospital, where his health deteriorated and he succumbed to his wounds. He was the first casualty in the renewed offensive launched by the army against Hamas in Gaza City last week.

On August 8, the Israeli government approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plan to gradually reoccupy the Gaza Strip, starting with Gaza City, home to approximately one million Palestinians.

On August 11, the Israeli occupation forces launched an attack on the city from the Zeitoun neighborhood in southeastern Gaza, as part of a military operation dubbed "Gideon Vehicles 2." This operation included the demolition of homes using booby-trapped robots, artillery shelling, indiscriminate gunfire, and forced displacement.

According to Israeli military data, 911 soldiers have been killed since the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023, including 465 in ground battles inside the Gaza Strip. Another 6,271 soldiers have been wounded, including 2,916 since the start of ground operations.

With American support, Israel has been waging its war on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. The war has resulted in 65,344 deaths and 166,795 injuries, most of them children and women, in addition to a famine that has claimed the lives of 442 Palestinians, including 147 children.
