The Ministry of Creative Economy uses AI to drive innovation in the creative industry

The Ministry of Creative Economy wants to use artificial intelligence/AI as a driver of innovation and growth in Indonesia's creative industry.

"With the momentum of AI adoption, this contribution will increase, affirming the role of the creative economy as a new engine of national economic growth," said Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya, as confirmed by ANTARA in Jakarta on Tuesday.

In his keynote address at the annual Intelligence Innovation Summit (AIIS) 2025, Riefky conveyed that AI has the potential to accelerate production, optimize marketing, and open global market access. However, human creativity must remain at the center of the creative ecosystem.

AI can be considered a collaborator, not a replacement for creators. He believes AI offers opportunities to accelerate innovation in various subsectors, including design, animation, games, applications, and digital marketing.

However, he believes AI use needs to be directed to ensure more targeted government policies. This is because AI use in Indonesia still faces challenges such as copyright protection and limited digital literacy.

"Creative products such as design, photography, and animation are human works with moral and economic rights. Current regulations don't fully address the use of these works as AI training data. Licensing mechanisms are crucial to ensure creators receive recognition and fair compensation," he said.
