Mexico City, July 19. In response to what it described as false accusations made against President Andrés Manuel López Obrador regarding the misuse of social programs and voter coercion by the Specialized Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judicial Branch, the Legal Counsel of the Federal Executive Branch filed an appeal with the Superior Chamber to review the resolution approved by the lower court.
"With a clear lack of argument and no evidence whatsoever , the Specialized Regional Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judicial Branch (TEPJF) falsely claims that there is misuse of social programs and voter coercion by the head of the Federal Executive Branch. The electoral judges fail to provide objective evidence to support how a simple expression translates into coercion of more than 35 million people who voted to continue the transformation of our country."
In issuing a position on the performance of Justices Luis Espíndola, Ruben Lara, and Monica Lozano, who considered that López Obrador's statements during the May 9 and 11 press conferences were an element of pressure on the electorate to induce voting, the Council criticized the line of argument in which they associate the validity or benefits of social programs with a particular political option winning the electoral process, which is clearly false.
For the Legal Department, the statements included in the resolution "are so general and banal that Judge Lara Patrón himself deviated from the reasons stated" but voted in favor.
The Legal Counsel of the Federal Executive Branch filed a motion for review requesting that the Superior Chamber of the Tepjf re-examine the facts and overturn the ruling for lacking the minimum grounds and motivation. Therefore, it is again calling on electoral judges to base their rulings on evidence, not personal assumptions.
