The US ambassador to Tel Aviv hints that his country respects the annexation move in the West Bank.

This came in statements made by Huckabee during a diplomatic conference organized by the Jerusalem Post newspaper in West Jerusalem.

When asked about Washington's reaction if Israel proceeds with annexation, Huckabee said, "We respect Israel as a sovereign state. We will not dictate what it can and cannot do."

He added, "They may sometimes disagree with the United States. That's their right. They are a sovereign country, and they have every reason to say we disagree. We respect our partner."

Huckabee described the US-Israeli relationship as "unique in its depth and trust."

Speaking about the possibility of international recognition of a Palestinian state at the United Nations, Huckabee said that Washington "urges governments to avoid this path."

"We not only disagree, but we strongly urge countries not to go there. First, it violates the Oslo Accords. It's a UN ploy. It won't create a Palestinian state," he said.

Several countries, including Britain, France, Australia, Canada, and Luxembourg, recently announced their intention to recognize the State of Palestine during the UN General Assembly meetings this September.

Of the 193 member states of the international organization, at least 149 recognize the Palestinian state declared by the Palestinian leadership in exile in 1988. In this context, Huckabee rejected the term "West Bank," claiming it is "inaccurate and disconnected from the historical context of the land."

He claimed that "the West Bank is a very modern and vague term, and it would be more accurate to call it Judea and Samaria, a term that dates back 2,000 or 3,000 years, and 80% of the Bible speaks of Judea and Samaria."

On September 4, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced Tel Aviv's intention to annex 82% of the occupied West Bank to Israeli sovereignty, stressing the need to "prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state."

In preparation for its annexation, Israel has intensified its crimes in the West Bank since launching its war of extermination on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, including the demolition of homes, the displacement of Palestinians, the confiscation of their lands, and the expansion and acceleration of settlement construction.

Israel's annexation of the occupied West Bank would eliminate the possibility of establishing an independent Palestinian state, in accordance with the principle of a two-state solution (Palestinian and Israeli), as stipulated in United Nations resolutions.

The genocide perpetrated by Israel, with American support, left 64,964 Palestinians dead and 165,312 wounded, most of them children and women, and a famine that claimed the lives of 428 Palestinians, including 146 children.
