With the support of the workers, we will rescue Pemex and CFE: AMLO

Mexico City, November 28.- During the neoliberal period, $8 billion was allocated to redesign the Minatitlán, Cadereyta, and Madero refineries . However, the three remaining refineries that were not intervened currently produce more, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated this Sunday.

"So what did they do with the $8 billion ? Well, most of it was stolen," he said. In a video of just over seven minutes that he shared on social media, he emphasized that this is an issue that "both fascinates me and bothers me because these neoliberal technocrats are complete thieves."

During a supervision of the rehabilitation works at the Salina Cruz refinery in Oaxaca , he noted that this plant is the newest of the six in the country, despite being more than 40 years old.

“Starting with the neoliberal period , refineries stopped being built. This isn't a coincidence; corrupt technocrats were deceiving people into believing it was better to sell crude oil and buy gasoline. I've always said that business is like selling oranges and buying orange juice; that's what neoliberal politics was all about,” the Tabasco native said.

With the rehabilitation of the six plants and the construction of the Dos Bocas refinery, he insisted that the goal is to become self-sufficient in fuels and produce domestically what is consumed in both the energy and food sectors.

The technocrats "wanted to destroy Pemex and CFE," but they were rescued by unionized and temporary workers, but not by companies that charged too much and did a poor job, he noted.

Accompanied by the heads of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, the Ministry of Energy, and Pemex, those in charge of the rehabilitation gave the president an explanation of the progress of the works.
