Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, a disease that is the result of small but cumulative damage caused by various bad daily habits.
Quoted from the Hindustan Times, Wednesday, Director and Head of the Cardiology Unit at Paras Health, Dr. Amit Bhushan Sharma, said several factors can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.
1. Smoking and cigarette smoke
The British Heart Foundation states that smokers are almost twice as likely to suffer a heart attack as non-smokers. Tobacco damages the lining of the arteries, promoting plaque buildup and reducing oxygen in the blood.
Secondhand smoke can also pose serious cardiovascular risks.
