German lawyer Melanie Schweizer said in a post on Saturday on the X platform: "On behalf of the Hind Rajab Foundation, I have filed an arrest warrant and a criminal complaint against German-Israeli soldier Shimon Avi Zuckerman."
She added: "We are dealing with documented acts of violence against civilians in Gaza, published by the suspect (Zuckerman) himself."
Speaking about Germany's legal responsibility in this case, Schweizer said: "Our country has a clear obligation under international criminal law, and this is not optional."
In a statement published Friday, the Hind Rajab Foundation announced that it had filed a detailed criminal complaint with the German Federal Prosecutor against Shimon Avi Zuckerman, a dual German-Israeli soldier in the Israeli occupation army, who participated in the war of extermination in the Gaza Strip.
The foundation said that "Zuckerman served as a combat engineer in the 8219th Engineer Battalion, part of the 551st Brigade, of the Israeli army during its military operations in the Gaza Strip."
The complaint, filed by the foundation on May 30, 2025, through attorney Schweitzer, accuses Zuckerman of "war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide," under Germany's Act on Crimes against International Law.
Zuckerman documented his military activities during the Israeli war of extermination in Gaza on his Instagram account, posting numerous snapshots and photos from the battlefield, not only of his presence and actions in combat zones, but also specifically of the destruction of Palestinian civilian infrastructure, according to the same organization.
The complaint depicts Zuckerman in multiple videos and posts bombing or celebrating the demolition of residential buildings. The posts often feature scenes of destruction accompanied by celebratory gestures such as smoking a hookah, cheering with fellow soldiers, or posing for the camera before and after the explosions.
In one of the clips, the accused soldier is seen standing and laughing as buildings collapse behind him. Another video shows him carrying out a bombing without wearing a helmet, indicating a non-combat situation and the absence of military necessity, according to the organization's statement.
The Hind Rajab Human Rights Foundation was established in February 2024 and is headquartered in Brussels. It actively pursues Israeli officials and military personnel through lawsuits around the world.
On March 3, lawyer Schweizer said in a video that she was "dismissed from her job as a civil servant in the German federal ministry because she denounced the genocide being committed by Israel in Palestine, German support, violence, and crimes taking place there."
The war, launched by Israel with US support on October 8, 2023, resulted in the deaths of 68,519 Palestinians, the injury of 170,382 others, most of them children and women, and the destruction of 90% of the civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.
