The Borneo Hornbills management has stated that they will not extend the contract of veteran center Tri Hartanto for the 2026 Indonesian Basketball League (IBL).
On the IBL page quoted in Jakarta, Tuesday, the announcement was conveyed by management via a farewell post on the club's Instagram (IG) social media account.
The decision to terminate the collaboration was made because management considered Tri's presence unsuitable for the team's needs for the next season.
The management seems to prefer to rejuvenate the squad and look for frontcourt players with higher performance and durability.
The 36-year-old basketball player joined Borneo in late November 2024, after leaving Hangtuah Jakarta, where he had played for one season.
Upon joining, the team hoped that Tri would not only strengthen the opponent's defense in the front court, but also become a mentor figure for the team's young players.
However, throughout the 2025 regular season, his contribution fell short of expectations. Tri only played in the first 11 games of the season, averaging 7.3 minutes per game, and averaging one point per game (ppg) and 1.1 rebounds per game (rpg).
This figure shows a decline compared to his performance at Hangtuah and his previous team.
From the end of April until the season ended in June 2025, Tri was no longer included in the starting lineup and abstained from Borneo's last 10 matches.
Tri Hartanto's professional basketball career began with Satya Wacana Salatiga in 2012. He then moved to Pelita Jaya in 2014 and stayed with the club until 2018.
After that, his career journey took him to a number of other IBL clubs, namely NSH Mountain Gold (2018-2019), back to Pelita Jaya (2019-2020), Bali United Basketball Club (2020-2022), Evos Thunder Bogor (2022-2023), Hangtuah Jakarta (2024), and finally anchored in Borneo.
After his contract was not extended at Borneo Hornbills, Tri Hartanto's future is now still open to other teams.
Until now, it is not known whether he will look for a new club in the IBL or choose to end his career in the highest caste of national basketball.
The club, which is based at the Laga Tangkas Sports Hall in Bogor, has not yet announced a new player who will fill the vacant position left by the senior center .
